winter survival

first sign of Spring in the city

I don't know many people whose favorite season is Winter. I certainly am not one of those people either.  But, as an adult, living in a city apartment, with a toddler, that dislike of winter has taken on new meaning.  Leaving the apartment requires a never-ending list of negotiations while convincing said toddler to wear each and every item of mandatory articles of clothing (hat, jacket, gloves, boots) and subsequently convincing to get “cozy” in the blanketed stroller.  (what I wouldn’t give to be carted around in this moving snuggie blanket during a cold winter’s day, is a conversation for another time)  After all of the hullabaloo to get out the door, the choices are limited to which I can tolerate more.  We can either go inside somewhere else and disrobe, only to have to go through the entire process again a few short hours later to scurry home before lunch and nap, or, we can brave the cold, whipping wind at the playground. The third option is to stay inside and avoid the layers, negotiations and red-noses.  These days also have their  limitations.  There are only so many places to play in a two-bedroom apartment, and yet, a seemingly innumerable amount of trouble to get into.

The winter months seem endless. The only color worn by almost every New Yorker, black - like our moods. The days longer then they should be.  The hours of sun, finite. And then, daylight savings.  The light at the end of the (winter) tunnel, literally and figuratively.  Pops of color appear on the trees and on our backs.  The sky brightens like the mood in the air.  Spring is almost here.

And all I can say is that I feel like I have survived.

Are you ready to shed those extra layers and take your first step towards new beginnings? I’d love to connect with you!
